Concrete placed during cold weather will develop sufficient strength and durability to satisfy the intended service requirements when it is properly produced, placed and protected. The key to proper cold weather concrete is about managing risk. This presentation will highlight the potential problems generally associated with placing concrete in cold weather and the principles that should be in place including the goals for the project making it possible to place cold weather concreting. Programs sometimes overlooked are the Cold Weather Concrete Plan and the Pre-Concrete Conference and the speaker will delve into how their importance assists in meeting those goals. Lastly the speaker will highlight the changes in the ACI 306R-16 from the previous Cold Weather Concreting Guide.
