Presentation Description:
It’s universally accepted that achieving carbon neutrality in the concrete industry has to center around Portland cement, and roadmaps for net-zero concrete have been developed, with an overarching goal to fully decarbonize the cement and concrete industry by 2050. These roadmaps involve different strategies and include, among other things, efficiency in design and construction, savings in cement and binders, and efficiency in concrete production. This presentation will focus on the roles and options available to design professionals, concrete producers, and repair contractors in the quest for sustainable concrete construction and carbon neutrality in the concrete industry by the target date of 2050. Exciting new initiatives being undertaken by ACI will also be presented.
About The Presenter: Presenter Bio: Dr. Charles K. Nmai is the 2022-2023 President of ACI, a member of ACI’s Board of Direction and Executive Committee, and a member of the Board of Direction of NEU, an ACI Center of Excellence for Carbon-Neutral Concrete. An ACI Fellow and member of several educational and technical committees, he is an honorary member of ASTM International Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, and immediate past-president of the Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Association (FRCA). Dr. Nmai is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Ohio and Head of Engineering at Master Builders Solutions in Beachwood, OH, USA where his responsibilities include providing technical leadership and strategic guidance in the marketing of admixtures, fibers and high-performance concrete technologies, and technology transfer. He has a PhD in civil engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN and was a “Purdue University Civil Engineering Alumni Achievement” awardee in 2012. In 2013, he was awarded the ACI Arthur R. Anderson Medal for outstanding contributions to the advancement of knowledge of concrete as a construction material in the areas of corrosion and chemical admixtures.
